Go Beyond Just Photo Displays

A digital frame in use as a simple “plug and play” device for displaying photos is a joy to behold. But add in the options of music, video and even data sent wirelessly from the Internet and its intrinsic value skyrockets!

There is a downside, though. Each feature added to the functionality of these electronic products can also add to the initial price. And there may be a little bit of technophobia involved with the higher-end frames if you have never owned one before.

Features that can enhance the enjoyment of these versatile products include the following.

Menu Navigation Choices.
Menu navigation can be as simple as buttons on the front, sides and/or backs. Remote control units can make menu navigation and changing settings or images less of a chore, though they can be easily misplaced. More advanced frames navigate through a touch screen interface which can look very sleek even though fingerprint smudges may be a problem. (Kodak makes some of its frames with a unique touch screen border designed so that smudges can be avoided.)

Adjustable Stands.
Adjustable stands are another advanced feature that can add intrinsic value. A frame stand, whether adjustable or not, should be wide enough to support the frame and should also be very sturdy.

Portability.
Portability, found in some frames is a real asset. Portable frames will have rechargeable batteries (usually lithium ion) and come in many different sizes and styles.

Calendars, Clocks, etc.
Calendars, clocks, alarms, voice recorders and even mirrors are a nice touch and can add to the functionality of a frame since they can be displayed whether or not the photo slideshow is running.

Power Consumption Controls.
Sleep functions and power on/off times allow for more control over the power consumption of these products. The same is true for motion or light sensors.

Software Downloads.
Revised software downloads (if you have computer access or if the frame is a wireless one) make it possible to upgrade the frame when improvements are available.

Wireless Capabilities.
The most advanced frames are the wireless ones. These allow for all kinds of ease of transferring photos and data across the Internet or from a computer or even from one frame to the other.

And More…
Some more advanced digital frames can be connected directly to TVs and DVD players to display photos, videos and data. Frames with built-in photo printing and built-in scanning functions already exist and future frames will have built-in camera options as well. 3D capability is fast becoming an important feature in the newest models. Digital frame technology continues to march ahead! And it is truly a win-win solution for both consumers and manufacturers.
